     Who is Jesus and

     what does his life

     mean for me today?

Jesus, the Son of God

Jesus was born of the virgin Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.  Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.  [Matthew 1:18-21]

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.  [Luke 1:35]

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  [John 3:16]

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.  [1 John 4:9]

Jesus existed with the Father before the Earth was created.  Through Jesus, all things were created.  In the following verses Jesus is called "the Word" by the apostle John.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  [John 1:1-3]

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  [John 1:10]

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.  [John 17:5]

Jesus Christ is Lord.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  [Philippians 2:9-11]

Jesus, our Personal Savior

Jesus Christ came to the Earth for a specific purpose.  He was sent here by God to be a savior for men.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  [John 3:16-18]

Jesus died on the cross and after three days in the tomb, He was resurrected.

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.  [John 19:30]

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.  And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.  His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:  And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.  And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  [Matthew 28:1-6]

Jesus died on the cross for the redemption of our sins.  The very blood that He shed washes away our transgressions.  His resurrection gives us hope that we may obtain eternal life.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:  [Colossians 1:12-14]

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:  [1 Corinthians 15:3-4]

That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.  [Romans 5:21]

Jesus did away with the Levitical law and re-established the Melchisedec priesthood, under which and through Him, we can obtain salvation today.

If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?  For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.  [Hebrews 7:11-12]

See the discussion on the Priesthood for a more in depth discussion of the Melchisedec priesthood.

In order to obtain this forgiveness of sins and hope of eternal life, we must accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior. We must follow in His footsteps.

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:  Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:  Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:  [1 Peter 2:21-23]

Conclusion

Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God.  Jesus came to the Earth to re-establish the Melchisedec priesthood.  He died for our sins on the cross and was resurrected after three days in the tomb.  He set in motion our plan for salvation which we are able to partake in if we believe on Him and accept Him as our personal savior.

Key Verse:  And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
